10 graduate from training course on marine fish hatchery

The Training Course on Marine Fish Hatchery Operations, one of the most sought-after courses at SEAFDEC/AQD, recently saw another 10 trainees graduate after its 37-day program.

The course, which ran from 17 June to 23 July 2024, was attended by four participants from the Philippines, two from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and one each from Singapore, Thailand, Viet Nam, and Cambodia.

The training, primarily held in SEAFDEC/AQD’s broodstock and hatchery facilities in Iloilo and Guimaras, provided participants with comprehensive technical knowledge and practical skills in broodstock management, spawning, and larval rearing of marine fishes.

The training course offered an immersive experience to the learners, who attended informative lectures and hands-on practical sessions on natural food culture, feed formulation, and cage culture of marine fishes.

Partly sponsored by the Government of Japan Trust Fund, participants also learned about biosecurity measures and protocols for hatcheries, fish health management, and nutritional diseases of marine fishes.

“You may be a little tired after a long period of training. However, I think it was a good experience for you because the Marine Fish Hatchery Training Course contains the essential contents for the stabilization of aquaculture production,” said SEAFDEC/AQD Deputy Chief Dr. Sayaka Ito during the closing program.

Dr. Ito expressed hopes that the trainees would apply their newfound knowledge to their aquaculture production activities in their respective countries.
